On Nov. 1, 2015, Norwegian Airlines first flight from Oslo, Norway to Puerto Rico landed, marking the start of four new direct flights between Europe and Puerto Rico: San Juan to London, United Kingdom (twice a week); Stockholm, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark and Oslo, Norway.
“The arrival of Norwegian Airlines provides a strong air access and incentive for development of new prospects between Puerto Rico and Europe. For the first time, we have established air travel with the Nordic countries of Europe which will result in significant diversification of connections, with different destinations and the arrival of a new market of visitors to the island," said Ingrid I. Rivera Rocafort, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
“We are very excited about the additional destinations for Norwegian Airlines, including London, Oslo Copenhagen and Stockholm. These new flights increase connectivity for passengers and open new markets that can be established between these countries. In terms of airline engineering, Norwegian is the only airline traveling to San Juan that operates with the new Boeing 787 model, best known as the Dreamliner, one of the most modern aircrafts in the market,” said Agustin Arellano, Chief Executive Officer of Aerostar Airport Holdings, a SJU management company.
These new flights are an addition to existing service from Madrid and Frankfurt Condor and Air Europa, for a total of eight weekly flights to Europe in high season. With these new routes, Puerto Rico has the opportunity to establish itself as a tourist destination for the European tourist. Thousands of new visitors will have the opportunity to discover Puerto Rico’s beaches, cuisine and the warmth that distinguishes the Puerto Rican culture.
